Let's cut out the weak middle men and women and vote directly for the lobby groups
Gaza, the expansion of Heathrow and NHS privatisation - among so many other issues - show it's now the will of the lobby groups that count, not the people
During Menachem Begin’s period as prime minister of Israel in the early eighties, he took a call from Ronald Reagan. The President had been shocked by images of children blown to pieces in Lebanon after the Israelis had been bombing West Beirut for 11 consecutive hours. “Menachem, this is a holocaust,” Reagan said. Begin replied, sarcastically: “Mr. President, I think I know what a holocaust is.” Reagan wasn’t intimidated and told Begin the bombing had to stop. Twenty minutes later, Begin called Reagan back to inform him he had ordered his bombers home.
